Vignobles Guillaume - Vin de Pays Franche-Comté, Charcenne

The Franche-Comté is some 30 miles from the Côte d'Or in Haute-Saône department. Once a thriving wine region, its vineyards were devastated by phylloxera in the 19th century. Vignoble Guillaume has restored some of the best parcels of land and its 34 hectares represents the leading estate in this little-known terroir that closely mirrors that of Burgundy. Xavier Guillaume concentrates on growing Burgundian varieties and the wines are regular award winners in the French wine press ( Hachette, Gault-Millau etc)and have also been voted best Vin de Pays in show by the UK wine press at the "France Under One Roof" tasting. Tim Atkin MW went as far as to say that the regular Pinot was the best reasonably priced Pinot in the UK.

The Guillaume family also operates one of France's most important wine nurseries, supplying vines to some of the world's best producers, including Romanée-Conti, Leroy and Roederer.
